Subject Description
Commonly described as cheery and charming, if not a bit conceited and selfish. She enjoys being with people and the attention that it brings, but will rarely form deeper and meaningful connections that last long.
Her appearance varies due to her state as 963, but most forms have similar enough features to the previous host, which currently include ginger or auburn hair, eye impairments, and a slimmer physical build. One feature that is present in all is a white forelock, seemingly mimicking Dr. Kelly’s piebaldism before the 963 incident.
SCP Classification
Special Containment Procedures
SCP-963-1 is to be kept in the possession of its current vessel, or at standard storage at Site-17. SCP-963-1 is only allowed to be accessed by authorized personnel.
An instance of SCP-963-2 is to be be detected among individuals that were in the current host’s vicinity at the time of death. Should SCP-963-2 be found, the subject it is attached to is to be given weekly health check-ups for the next 4 weeks and be provided with the required medical assistance.
SCP-963-2’s development is to be supervised as it continuously grows. When SCP-936-2 is fully developed, the subject is to be handed SCP-936-1 by a D-class operative for activation.
After the process is successful, SCP-936-2 is to be locked into the empty socket of SCP-963-1, and must be worn at all times by the new vessel.
Description
SCP-963 is a phenomenon where, near the place of death of the current holder of SCP-963-1, an instance of SCP-963-2 will spontaneously appear within the body of an individual who roughly fits the description of the deceased holder. It will then begin growing inside the host with the intention of reaching its final stage of activation, at which point the individual’s consciousness will be replaced by late Dr. Kelly’s, former head researcher of SCP-963.
Early stage symptoms include mild anemia, dizziness, general confusion, and increased levels of dopamine and serotonin; making its subjects unlikely to report their condition.
Later stage symptoms include feelings of anxiety, severe anemia, nosebleeds, fainting, pain, and malformation of the spine; these can be fatal depending on the individual.
SCP-963-1 is an 22 inch long coiled and twisted silver neckpiece, with a socket at its center. When empty, SCP-963-1 will manifest SCP-963-2 within a nearby subject as an extention of itself.
SCP-963-1 was discovered in a burial site in ████, and, shortly after, came into Foundation custody after reports of small trasluscent crystals flickering in and out of view of the archaeologists. It was later found to be coming from a nearby hidden tomb, where SPC-963-1 resided.
SCP-963-2 will anomalously and spontaneously appear inside an individual’s back as a clear 0.75 inch crystal of intangible nature. It phases through the spine into the brainstem; preventing it from being rejected by the body and providing it with nutrients on its own. Over a course of several weeks SCP-963-2 will begin developing mass, as well as slowly increase in size.
SCP-963-2 at full size is a 3 inch wide red gemstone with a hexagonal cut. As SCP-963-2 grows, it will begin being pushed out of the body and become visible through the skin. Proximity with SCP-963-1 will cause it to be ejected from the body. When SCP-963-2 is placed inside SCP-963-1 it will reverse any damage caused by the process, and being worn by the holder will prevent the body from becoming comatose.
When a subject expires, SCP-963-2 will disappear from the necklace's facets, and repeat the same process.
Addendum
Incident Date: 11/16/19██
Due to its unknown nature at the time, proper safety measures weren't taken during 963's imprinting period on its current subject, Doctor Kelly. Dr. Kelly began developing a fixation on SCP-963 and displaying erratic behaviors. After an attempt to remove SCP-963 from its containment, he was subsequently amnesticized and discharged from the project without proper investigation. A week later, on November 23, a mass containment breach would accur; Dr. Kelly was found deceased afterwards, wearing SCP-963 (now labeled SCP-963-1).
Later autopsy reports would reveal about 118 crystals formed inside the body, replacing various organs, all of which dematerialized when separated from the body. This behavior hasn't been repeated, and is believed to be part of the process that imprinted the subject's conciousness into SCP-963.
Background
████ Kelly grew up within the veil. After their discovery of what is now SCP-███, they were offered a full-ride scholarship by the Foundation, which they accepted. According to them, this was due to their financial situation, and needing to pay off extensive medical bills.
Not much else is known about their personal life before the Foundation, due to the lack of any other living relative and their refusal to discuss their previous life. However, their medical history prior to working with SCP-963 has been documented extensively, with various complications over the years.
Doctor Kelly graduated from ██████ in 19██, with a degree in archaeology. They worked as a researcher for 20 years before their incident, eventually attaining a doctorate; after their extensive contact with SCP-963, they were reclassified as an SCP and sent to Site-19 for containment. This is where where they spent the next 5 years. They were eventually returned to their position, after petitioning for more lenient containment procedures.
Despite common belief, they rarely feel upset at their condition, and instead embrace it with open arms. It has been found that they are physically unable to feel guilt about their hosts, which is theorized to be caused by SCP-963's ability to block out negative emotions regarding itself in infected subjects, and presumably in Dr. Kelly as well.
While that may be true, Dr. Kelly assures the Foundation that their personal satisfaction doesn’t come from their anomaly, and claims that their anomalous status "freed them from an unwanted life."
Dr. Kelly has refused long-term therapy, stating that they have been "psychoanalyzed enough by shrinks" and that "if I wanted to be poked and prodded at, I would just go back to containment."
