Profile
A being of many faces, Dr. Myriad is a shapeshifter most often seen in the forms of a common raven, a Maine Coon cat, and a short man of vaguely Middle Eastern descent with slight scarring across his lip [designated ‘The Primary’], among others. They are easily identified by the amulet SCP-0963 hanging from their neck, usually contained within a decorated pouch.
Slightly reserved, they may blend into the background to avoid conflict and certain responsibilities, but will make themselves known once they “find the opportunity for a little fun”. From messing with low level researchers to mimicking a breach, none are exempt from being dragged into Dr. Myriad’s occasional mischief, especially Dr. Clef, often their accomplice. Unfortunately, it has been known for intermittent off-grid disappearances due to a knack for staying hidden, making it difficult to reprimand. Any new ID band terminations are to be investigated for its remains, or lack thereof.
Due to his extensive collection of shapes, each freshly acquired form must be recorded in a file accessible to all staff working with Dr. Myriad [Morphology File]. If a common animal in possession of the amulet appears at Uniform Assignment, it is to be provided with the uniform tailored to the Primary shape under the assumption it is him.
As a researcher, Dr. Myriad cycles through multiple sites in order to analyze and reason anomalies’ behavioral contexts, possessing the ability to directly experience an organic subject’s perspective. While he favors plants and mammals, he additionally studies the behavior of other sentient beings, such as living objects, albeit with greater difficulty. More often than not, Dr. Myriad will advocate for more accommodating treatment of the subject.
Lately, her adherence to Foundation protocols has become loose in regard to her work - though she is still within Foundation trust, caution is advised during testing.
In her off time, she may be found listening to music while sewing custom pouches for her amulet in the site break room, or speaking with the flora in the agricultural sector. Researchers are advised not to ask Dr. Myriad what the plants think of them.
SCP Classification
Special Containment Procedures
SCP-0963 is to be in Dr. ████ Myriad’s possession at all times. Dr. Myriad is permitted to contain SCP-0963 within a pouch for others’ safety as long as it is noticeable on their person. If any new shape is introduced to SCP-0963, the extent of its abilities, anomalous or not, is to be immediately taken note of in Dr. Myriad’s Morphology File.
Description
SCP-0963 is an indestructible ornate amulet approximately 15 centimeters in circumference made from white gold, with thirteen (13) ██-k brilliant-cut diamonds surrounding a ███-k oval-cut ruby in a starburst pattern. As of ██/██/████, four metal plates have been attached through the amulet’s arches and around the ruby in a square shape for convenience in connecting it to other devices, alongside a ring on its rim for sentimental purposes. Information regarding how SCP-0963 came into Foundation possession is unavailable due to the first Erasure Event*.
Disengaging in direct skin contact with SCP-0963 has proven to be immediately fatal. In this process, the subject’s memory and physical form immediately before time of death are recorded by 0963. While within a radius of about 3 ft. from SCP-0963, Dr. Myriad is able to mold their own physical form into that of any adult organism killed by the amulet and access those memories. Dr. Myriad has also been shown to retain their own memory while in different shapes, which appears to be the only constant.
If Dr. Myriad experiences any open-wound injury, their exposed flesh and blood quickly deform into a thick, red semi-liquid resembling that of their transition period between shapes, making it impossible for him to bleed out. Having experienced a fatal injury, Dr. Myriad’s entire body will deform into the liquified flesh and seep into SCP-0963 for a recovery period. During this time, a slit pupil shape appears within the ruby and takes 1-2 hours to rebuild the Primary body wearing it. Interviews with Dr. Myriad indicate that it is still able to view its surroundings in this form. Any separation of the liquid flesh from retreating into the amulet does not affect the healing period until SCP-0963 establishes that it does not have enough organic matter to rebuild Myriad, triggering a Scratch Event, in which it destroys records within itself in order to recover them. Any separated flesh is terminated in this instance. This was discovered after Dr. Myriad was suddenly unable to access the record of a common raven, requiring a replacement.
Background
Dr. Myriad was to be filed as an SCP before asking to be assigned to fieldwork, primarily given reconnaissance and intelligence duties to assist a partner during missions. After the Rogue Chainsaw Incident, he would be permitted to take a more combative position, but later forcibly retired due to internal issues. Myriad was given the choice afterwards of becoming a researcher or being contained as an SCP, and chose the former.
Any information regarding their life before their time with the Foundation is inaccessible to all including Dr. Myriad due to the antimemetic effects of SCP-0963, including their name – “Myriad” was later chosen in its place, with an undecided first name, constantly in flux.
Test Logs
Experiment ██, ██/██/████
Concerning the strain of shapeshifting on Dr. Myriad’s body. While timed, Dr. Myriad is instructed to shift between as many shapes as possible.
Result: 150 different shapes in 5 minutes before exhaustion. Dr. Myriad reported an intense migraine. Further testing is to be conducted regarding whether the variety between these shapes also contributes to burning their stamina.
Experiment ██, ██/██/████
Concerning the assimilation of juvenile subjects. Dr. Myriad is instructed to briefly touch SCP-0963 to a juvenile █████.
Result: Dr. Myriad is unable to locate any record of the shape within SCP-0963. It seems that adult memories are required in order to maintain a record. Dr. Myriad requested to bury the subject. Request was approved.
Experiment X2, ██/██/████
Concerning whether SCP-0963 is capable of restoring a form to natural health from a subject recorded while dying. Dr. Myriad is instructed to briefly touch SCP-0963 to a rabbit dying of blood loss.
Result: Dr. Myriad simply morphed into the subject in its dying state, terminating shortly afterwards. Once recovered, she requested a therapist.
