Profile
On paper, Ngam-chit Suwannarat (or, as everyone calls her, Nok) is the chief containment specialist for Site-797. Of course, given the site's relative lack of contained anomalies — the team primarily strives for understanding and coexistence — she ends up sitting around all day. She tends to look for just about anything she can work on in the meantime, whether it's carrying out ever-ongoing mechanical repairs for various site fixtures or attempting to retune her coworker's desk radio by stripping it down to wires and bolts.
She can be found just about anywhere around the site, getting grease all over her slacks, and she loves nothing more than being given a problem to solve. She's very mechanically minded, and has a tendency to tinker with whatever's in front of her, even if it doesn't need fixing — although more often than not, it will end up running more smoothly once she's done, and she'll manage to have a couple pieces left over. Her coworkers all know her, given her tendency to roam, and she's always the person to call in a pinch.
Trivia
Nok was born in the Narathiwat province of Thailand. She moved to Cambodia as a young adult.
She is Buddhist, although she does not describe herself as religious. She considers her beliefs to be a significant part of her cultural tradition, rather than a display of faith.
She is fluent in Thai, Khmer, Malay, and English, usually defaulting to Khmer or Thai. Her Malay knowledge comes from growing up around native speakers, so she can only read & write it phonetically — however, her speaking is completely fluent. She dislikes English, and only uses it when necessary (or on official paperwork).
Her nickname, Nok, is so commonly used for her that many of her coworkers don't recognize her full name when seen on paperwork.
Dr. Sem's nickname for her (ប្អូនស្រី ស្អាត) is from the Khmer for "beautiful," because of the meaning of her full Thai name.
She previously worked at 797's sister site. She prefers Site-797, though, due to its slightly more relaxed atmosphere.
She tends not to have very much self-awareness, treating her body and mind like a machine that she has to upkeep maintenance on. She also often assumes that everyone thinks the same way that she does, which makes her a bit stubborn. However, she isn't particularly argumentative — she tries very hard to keep annoyances from getting to her.
She's a lesbian, but she hasn't figured it out yet. She tells herself that she just prefers supporting her parents, rather than settling down with a husband.
She was informally diagnosed with ADHD once she started seeing Foundation psychiatrists for routine employee evaluations. However, much of her family is also neurodivergent, so she doesn't typically recognize her ADHD traits as being "abnormal," choosing not to seek treatment.
She has a bachelor's degree in structural engineering, and a master's degree in civil engineering.
