Background

Founded 10 years after the Khmer Rouge, in conjunction with the US government and the remaining Khmer monarchy. After making some approximate plans for the site, it was handed over to the eldest remaining member of an important Khmer family — Director Borina Sem, who fundamentally influenced the direction and culture of the site.

At present, the site primarily is dedicated to researching local interactions and folklore surrounding the anomalous, archiving culturally and historically significant Safe-class anomalous objects, and acting as a liaison with the local temple complex, which has an above-baseline rate of frequent anomalous activity.

The "front" for the site is called Specialty Conservation Protocols Cambodia, an organization that promotes the preservation and recognition of Cambodian history and culture. The fake organization has a blog, run by Dr. Sem, that regularly posts about little-known Cambodian folklore and history, either posting about subjects little known to local residents in Khmer or subjects previously untranslated for an international audience in English.

  • On-Site Locations

  • Archive: The archive is a storage facility equipped for preserving documents and artifacts of historical and cultural significance. It includes the equipment for a select collection of relevant Safe-class objects.
  • Offices: A suite of offices for the research and administrative staff of the building; includes three breakrooms. Most of the site staff are employed here.
  • Archaeological Testing Facility: For research into artifacts discovered in the region, primarily (but not exclusively) those that may have some anomalous significance.
  • Biological Research Laboratory: For research into potential anomalies discovered in the region that are biological in origin. Also used for cataloguing local flora and fauna, for archival and scientific purposes.
  • Temporary Containment: In the case of a local anomaly that cannot immediately be moved to Site-797’s sister location, the site has bare-bones facilities for the temporary containment of anomalies class Euclid or lower for the protection of the local community. (Note: 797 is not primarily concerned with containment; this is largely precautionary.)
  • Shrine Room: A Buddhist shrine. Used by many staff members due to the largely Buddhist population of the site. Tended by Phuong (ឡាយ ភួង), a Buddhist monk who is not a member of official site staff.
